World Challenge offers young people the chance to explore the world and experience different cultures while developing valuable life skills. We provide bespoke 3 to 6-week student expeditions to an unrivalled range of over 65 destinations.
Our Expeditions are created around 4-phases: Acclimatisation, Trek, Project, Rest & Relaxation.
Not just an amazing adventure, World Challenge Expeditions are geared to the education of young people and teach essential life skills such as leadership, communication, team work, risk management and budgeting.
Renowned for creating the very best in bespoke school expeditions for 25 years, World Challenge provides all students and teachers with a level of expedition safety and service second to none.
Sustainable Projects
We offer schools the chance to participate in sustainable community projects which often turn out to be the most rewarding part of the expedition. One Scottish school is returning to the same project site in Kenya this summer for the third year running and have now adopted the school. These projects put things in perspective for students and their work makes a real difference to the community.
Safety
World Challenge provide all teams with a Programme of support prior to Expedition ranging from help with fundraising, training weekends, Expedition Preparation Conferences (for all our travelling teachers and Leaders), as well as a dedicated portal My World Challenge for every participant.
While out on Expedition World Challenge offer back up for all teams in the form of in-country agents, contacts in all countries as well as a 24-hour, 7-day a week state-of-the art Operations Centre.
Fitness
At World Challenge we believe that it is important for all our expedition team members to be well prepared physically, in order to ensure that they have a safe and enjoyable expedition. With that in mind we have produced a Fitness Assistance Pack for all Challengers and teachers. The Pack is a resource for those who may need guidance on how to reach the level of fitness required for their expedition and is provided for all teams traveling with us.
Life skills
As part of their expedition, all students complete an evaluation programme which they input into before, during and after expedition. They write their aims prior to expedition ranging from personal to academic and developmental; they then chart their progress and experience during expedition and look at results post-expedition – all along with the help of their teacher and Expedition Leader.
Curriculum for Excellence
Geared wholly towards the development of students, World Challenge expeditions compliment the Curriculum for Excellence and enables students to become successful learners with enthusiasm and motivation for learning. Students are given full responsibility of the expedition taking on roles to encourage responsibly as well as coming up with solutions to problems both independently as an as part of a team.
Roles range from Leader, Deputy, as well as those covering areas such as budget management, food, health, accommodation and transport. By taking responsibility in this way, students work together and push themselves out of their comfort zone, achieve their aims and objectives and become responsible citizens with respect for others. They are able to develop their own views of the world, are self-aware and can relate to others.
“A World Challenge Expedition is the most humbling, heart-warming, happy, hilarious and, sometimes horrendous experience, but something that all young should have the opportunity to take part in. Confident individuals, responsible citizens, successful achievers and effective contributors, Curriculum for Excellence in a bottle and the complete package”.
